JW’s Welcomed?

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. - 1 Peter 3:15

There are so many opportunities that go unused because people are unwilling to rise to the challenge. Few enlist to challenge the belief system of another who trained to compete. Someone whose been known to persevere and will go the distance, even holding medals in the long jump. How exposing it is for protestant Christians to claim belief in something that we cannot back up with scriptural proof. Or to be proven that we possess more experiences and feelings than Bible knowledge.

The Jehovah Witnesses (JW) is a group that claims to be Christian but is not. The JWs use a book called the New World Translation (NWT). I will mention more about the differences in Bible translations in another post. However, this particular translation, the NWT, is like many other translations of the Bible that contain several changes to words and verses of scripture and the removal of whole verses and words in scripture. Much of what has been changed or removed is any verse that would point one to the deity of Jesus Christ. Two statements constitute the overarching difference between JW's belief and Protestant Christian belief: “Whom do men say that I am? ” And “But whom say ye that I am?” (i.e., Mt. 16:13-17; Mk. 8:27-30).

Neither party will disagree with the premise that Jesus is the Son of God. Both the KJV and the New World Translation provide scriptural proof. Tell JW that Jesus Christ is the express image of the invisible God and not a mere representation. Say that as the manifest glory of the apple seed is the tree with the apples on it, the manifest glory of Jehovah God is the person of Christ. Therefore, He is God still but in another form. Explain to them that He Jesus is called the Son of God because of His resurrection from the dead (See Rom. 1:4). A man subject to death, but being that Jesus is, was, and is to come God, he rose from the grave never to experience death again. Every child entering the world is either the son or the daughter of someone. Since Adam, there have been no original fathers among men. After you have shared this, don’t expect to gain a friend because this is not enough. You have not shown them anything. They go from house to house with the intent of teaching, even showing men and women the JW truth. Be prepared to do the same.

When exposing inconsistencies in the New World Translation, making every effort to lead our guests to the truth, we honor God and His word. You do not have to try and memorize all of this information, but please walk through this study guide with them in all sincerity and not in an exhibition of self-exaltation. Be aware that this study does not include all of the verses of scripture that support the deity of Christ. The NWT modifies many verses that support this claim, so these select verses are those needed to show the instability of their current foundation.
